THE difficulties which Lancashire is facing were stressed by the Mayor
of Bolton (Ald T. Glaister) when speaking at the opening of a textile
exhibition in the Atlas Mill canteen of the Musgrave Spinning Co. today.
With first-hand knowledge, for he is himself in the finishing section
of the industry, he issued a warning that there is a possibility of
a slump. He reported that about two months ago he was doing 200,000
yards of cloth for the West African market. Today he was not doing a
yard, due to Japanese competition. He said the Japanese were cutting
the trade in Manchester by 20 per cent in price.
