Some residents were relocated to many diverse places never to
meet again. I knew some kids that I used play with , who simply
disappeared overnight. I loved living in Coe St .

Many kids from Coe St attended St Marks school. I remember the
Liles family from number 70 our next door neighbours, I lived
at 72a.
We lived in back to back houses and we had to walk all around
the block to go to the toilet. A few went in the recess that was
in front of the mill gate. The toilet was just a piece of rough
wood with a hole in it , it stunk and you did your business to
a chorus of those old flies called bluebottles. I was friends
with the Bates family and opposite us a bit to the right were
the Katowskis a polish family who fed me with pickled herring
and sauerkraut , I loved it . I remember the Morris Ladies , one
of them was called Mary and bedridden and her mother had bronchitis.
They were very kind . We didn't have a telly and they let us watch
children's hour on the BBC about 3 times a week. Some times they
made me and my brother Trevor egg and chips so we stayed long
enough to watch the Liberace show as well.

John Riley, 46 Coe St., evidently had some trouble at his
house last night, for, according to the account he gave, at a quarter
to twelve his wife hit him on the eye with a basin. P.C. Carter found
him in Bridgeman St. bleeding from a wound over the eye.
